Christian Shaw, MSCE, PE

Christian has over 12 years of diverse engineering experience. He has been a part of the structural steel design, pressure vessel design, foundation design, and stress analysis of piping on over 20 natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plants located in 9 different countries. Christian has learned much about foreign materials, foreign structural shapes, and foreign codes, as well as American code literature in his career. He has also done structural engineering design and stress analysis of piping on several process (ASME B31.3) facilities while being selected as the lead stress analysis engineer for the client. Christian is an industry leader in finite element analysis (FEA) and design of very hot and heavily loaded pipe supports and has given major contributions to the development and improvement of standardizing pipe support design as a consultant for three large global engineering firms. Over the holiday season of 2014, Christian took it upon himself to allocate hundreds of hours of personal time to develop a converging FEA program in Microsoft Excel for examining the local stresses on a cylindrical shell due to a rectangular attachment. This was a complicated task that required programming knowledge as well as a comprehensive understanding of local stress design and experience in evaluating membrane stresses, radial loads, circumferential moment, longitudinal moment, torsional moment, and external shear loads. Several of Christian's colleagues, some of whom are also knowledgeable in local stress analysis, were admittedly outspoken about this being an achievement most engineers could not intellectually accomplish – even if they had the ambition to attempt such a feat over their holiday vacation season. Christian’s FEA program was tested and verified against a similar version that a major US based software company sells licenses for in the magnitude of several thousand dollars.

Christian has experience working on-site assessing and completing the design of steel and reinforced concrete retrofit projects, designed several fall protection systems, and has done some geotechnical engineering work too. Christian also worked part-time in the evenings as an Adjunct Professor for a year teaching Statics. In addition to design of power and process facilities globally, Christian has designed a wealth of non-production commercial structures located in the St. Louis area including elementary and middle school additions, fire station expansions, new fire and police headquarters, medical facilities, university expansions, retail centers, and restaurants.

Christian currently manages the completion of commercial projects, top to bottom – which includes being involved in bid and cost negotiations and examinations, designing the structure and generating all of the structural analysis calculations, being in continuous contact with the contractors / architects / owners to provide attentive and reliable project coordinating, and then Christian also absorbs any and all questions and RFI’s from the field during the construction of his projects. He also works as a landscaper (for his own company) because it's a fun way to engage and help people in his community at very reasonable prices.

Christian believes integrity is the most important component one’s work should contain. Christian has remained very productive since childhood, which is when he started his first lawn mowing business and began delivering and installing appliances for his father’s True Value Hardware Store. Christian is a highly motivated natural leader, and also a generous individual – as he was a “Big Brother” for more than two years and has given multiple contributions to Hellen Keller Services for the blind.

Christian has a passion for doing things right, and is obsessed with producing nice, healthy lawns. Christian takes pride in providing quality services with a personal touch to all customers. He is known for his distinct attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction.

In addition to family, engineering, and landscaping, Christian loves baseball and football and attends an Opening Day in a different MLB stadium every year. Christian's favorite teams are the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers.
